Worship As Lifestyle

It is amazing to me how deceitful idolatry can be in our culture.  This idolatry is not just confined to our culture but it also pervasive in our churches.  For example, when church becomes all about “us” first and “God” second then we are not worthy to ascend to the hill of God (psalm 24).  When the church is more focused on “growth in numbers” at the sacrifice of pursuing the gospel then idolatry has penetrated the church.  Idolatry is about what we worship and worship is always about where are our priorities.  Worship is not just a matter of showing up on Sundays for an hour a week; worship is the priority displayed in the lifestyles of our everyday living.  I think it is pretty safe to say that the focus of consumerism within America today is the dominant “god” of our society with the illusion of “protecting safety at all costs” not far behind.  Perhaps it would do me (and maybe you) some good to allow John’s word to speak to me today and refocus my priority (or worship, if you will) toward God.  Perhaps I need to be reminded today that through Christ I am able to know God; through Christ the love of God is in me.  For me, this is a big deal because I have been given a gift and invited into a new way of living, a life that is grounded upon “the Truth” and not the illusion of truth.  For me, this is about worship; it is about giving credit where credit is due; my allegiance is with Jesus, because it is through Jesus that I know God.  Enough said!!!
