Isaiah 26:13-14a
It is so easy for us to get fixated upon our own time and space as if we live in an infinite time period that is bound up for all of eternity. This image is because we are wrapped up in ourselves and one thing that it produces is we begin to look at our temporal rulers, lords, leaders, etc as having infinite qualities. It would do me good today to remember that rulers come and go; lords comes and go; empires come and go; only Jesus will withstand the test of time. Where is Alexander the Great? Where is Rome? Where is Russia? Where are the confederate states of america? Where is apartheid South Africa? ….and the list will continue throughout history. The temptation is to be so wrapped up in myself that I forget that “today” is temporal and that I seek to honor that which is permanent and who can transcend the temperance of my life to give me the stability of eternal. I seek to honor Christ today; I choose to honor life, not death.
Lord, help me to remember that you are the permanent presence in my life today and all other authorities, rulers, lords are one day closer to dying today than they were yesterday. Help me to remember that you are no closer to death today then you were when you formed the heavens and the earth; for you are life. Jesus, be the source of my life today that I may display the presence of the eternal and not the finite of the world; empower and equip me to point to your eternal presence throughout the day and witness to true life. Use me to expose the temporal of our world and proclaim that true security can only come from following you. Amen!
Hmmm… I remember a speaker putting it this way… If I’m walking in the woods and I come upon a fork in the road and there are two guys there- one living and one dead, who am I going to ask for direction? Yeah, I’d rather consult the living guy in this situation, and for my life, I’ll consult the living God, thank you very much!
Jesus lives!
In His Awesome Grip,
