Celebrating the consuming fire known as God’s presence
Hebrews 12:28-29
This verse is such an inspiration of assurance for me today. It reminds me that God has invited me to be a part of a Kingdom that will stand the test of time and cannot be taken down by any powers and principalities present in this world. This kingdom is a rock that cannot be shaken. There is also this wonderful link through the “consuming fire” to the old testament that reminds me today that the same God that delivered Israel from Egypt through an unlikely person (Moses) is the same God that delivered me from sin and is using me to make a difference in His Kingdom. When you’ve been where I’ve been its hard to even imagine that someone like me could be writing this blog or the pastor of a new community of faith. It is only through the “consuming fire” that these things are possible in my life. My response flows naturally to thankfulness and worship. These two are so closely related and the author brings them together in a way that reminds us that all worship must be centered upon thankfulness to God for inviting us into His Kingdom through Jesus Christ. To worship with reverence and awe is to understand that we are invited to join the consuming fire of God’s presence and allow that presence to shape our lives. I can think of know other task that can be as defining for our lives than to worship in a way that recognizes the consuming fire of God’s touch and presence in our lives.
O lord, thank you for reminding me today of your consuming fire that seeks to be poured out upon my life that I may be a message of deliverance for all of those in captivity to sin today. May your consuming fire free me from my sin today that I may be a light for you. I give you thanks today Lord for your redemptive work in my life. May you give me the grace to center my worship on you. Protect me from any temptation that tries to make worship something other than being before my God that has invited me into an unshakeable kingdom. I pray you would consume the sin of my life that I would be freer to take another step of obedience in leading this new community of faith and that your consuming fire would be the chief actor in this play.
