It’s the not the building, but how it was built that is truly important!
Psalm 27:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.”
The psalm gives me some interesting insight that I had not thought about in a while but is such an important truth for my life. I learn this morning that the finished product is not the objective or the most important part of the building. The most foundational piece of the building is the source of the building. The question to ask is: What was the building build upon? Is my life the way it is today because of my own doing? If so, then whatever labor I have done; whatever success I have experienced; whatever status I attain; whatever I possess; the life I have built is all done vain. It would be better for me to have a small portion of life and it be built by the Lord then to have a mansion of a life built upon my own doing. Our culture tells me that the finished product is what is important regardless of who builds it, but today I am reminded that the builder is more important than the building and unless the builder of my life is God then the building is in vain.
Lord, may you be the builder of my life today. Give me the grace to see those aspects of my life today that are not built by you. If there are any aspects of this new church that are being built by human hands please destroy those parts of the house immediately. Send a tornado of your providence that will protect me (us) from myself (ourselves). God may you be the builder of this new church; may you be the chief actor that the finished product will not be in vain but will be bathed in the anointing of your Holy Spirit. Lord, any time that we are tempted to take the place of you and become the builder may the Holy Spirit remind us of the psalmist truth and may we have the grace to take a step back that you may continue to be the chief contractor in the building of this new church. God, I thank you in advance for being the builder of the building and I thank you in advance for the new church that will not be built in vain because she is going to be built by you.
