Psalm 130:5 “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.”
My natural tendency is to take matters into my own hands; to try to fix it myself. It is so hard for me to wait for the Lord. If it is not happening right now the way that I think it should then I feel this deep desire to try to make something happen; often times this blows up in my face. It seems that when I get ahead of God those become the times I feel frustrated, discouraged, empty, etc. These past couple of months I am learning (at a slow speed) that being on the same page is more important than being busy in the name of work. It would do me some good to take a deep breath and wait upon the Lord. What would it mean for my soul to wait upon the Lord; for me to turn to the scriptures and make sure my hope is secure in the story of God’s love that is present in the scriptures? It would mean for me to have a security and a confidence of knowing that regardless of the circumstance, the discouragement, or the insecurity God is going to bring light out of the darkness and redemption to the broken. Today, I choose to wait upon the Lord, to not jump ahead, to trust He is at work, and to ground my hope in His word that will not let me down.
God, I find myself in a place the psalmist describes; I find myself feeling tempted to jump ahead and to take matters into my own hands. I find it hard to trust your plan today! Shower me with your grace today that I may know you are at work and that your plan is at work in my life regardless of the feeling I may be having. May your grace explode in my life today and give me the security to wait upon you and to keep my hope grounded in your word. Protect me from discouragement and move me beyond myself that I may see through my weaknesses and envision your strength that is paving the ways for today and the tomorrows of my life. I thank you for the reminder of your active presence in my life and the exposure of my temptation to not wait for you in the discouraging moments of life. Protect me from myself today that you may be the driving force in my life and all my actions throughout the day. Amen!
