The Kingdom of God: "This place ain’t going no where"

Daniel 7:14 “He was given authority, glory, and sovereign power; al people, nations, and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

This verse has so many implications for my life today. I guess the first thing I have to do is recognize what kings and kingdoms are trying to convince me that the Kingdom of God will not have the last say. As I look at my world this morning I see a place enslaved to a culture of individualism ruled by the almighty dollar. In so many places it seems that the church is not embodying the Kingdom of God or at the very least believes that the Kingdom of God exists in some way. Many churches look to be ruled by the same mind set as the rest of my culture where the dollar has the final say. I have to say that I am guilty of this rule and allow the obsession of wealth to infect my mind far to often. Today I am reminded that this culture will not last forever; there will be an end to my society. Maybe not in my lifetime or my children’s, but it will come; simply because kings and kingdom’s will all fade away. However, the one thing that will last is the exact proclamation of this verse; the Kingdom of God will never fade away. My goal today is to live in a way that points to this truth and proclaims this truth to a world that is blinded by its own self absorption.

Oh God, I come to you this morning realizing that the power of evil is so deceitful that it can be controlling us without us even knowing. There is a battle raging within me between being self absorbed in this culture of individualism and staying faithful to you. May you come to me today in a powerful way that helps me to embody the truth of this text. Remind me throughout the day that your Kingdom is the only Kingdom that will withstand the test of time; help me to see the big picture and to recognize my own time and space within this world. Give me opportunities today to point to your truth and to be willing to step out in faith to proclaim your truth. I thank you for pursuing my life and for introducing me to true life; use me now to bring others into this same light that your Kingdom may be lifted up above every other power within the world. Amen!
