Vision and Call: "God’s call upon a leader, coupled with a willing remnant leads to a realized vision"

Nehemiah 2:18 “I also told them about the gracious hand of my God upon me and what the king had said to me. They replied, “let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.”

As I read this verse today I am reflecting upon the importance of called leadership that is wed together with the right people and the amazing work that can take place through the grace of God. This is the kind of work that can only come through the creative power of God. It is only through God that the right leader can receive a vision and then couple that vision with the right people to put it into action. I wonder how often we try to make sure we have the right person with the right people because if we don’t there will be no rebuilding. Could it be that every church is an opportunity for God to rise up a called leader and couple them with the right remnant for the rebuilding to take place. I believe that God has called me to this place; I believe I am the leader God wants to use to communicate His vision to His people here in Fayetteville. I also believe that God is bringing together the right remnant; that God is calling out those that will hear and capture the vision of this new congregation. That these folks are the ones that are ready to rebuild the wall; to be a part of creating a community of faith that is a safe haven for the lost to come and be found; that is a place for us to journey together and live out our faith; to create an environment that teaches us to live a different way that tells a different story then the culture of our world. I am confident not in myself today, but in the call of God and the promise found in this text that when God brings together called leadership with a called remnant; a vision is lived into that points to the power and love of God.

Lord Jesus, I thank you for being patient with me and continuing to pursue me throughout my doubts and questions about coming to Fayetteville. Lord, as I sit here today I have a peace about this call that is the same as the peace of answering the call to become a pastor. I thank you for working in spite of my doubts and not giving up on me; thank you for giving me the grace to hear and answer your continued call upon my life. Lord, thank you for bringing together the remnant and this call that we might live into your vision for this community. God may you continue to empower us to love the world to heaven; may you continue to bring us closer to each other; may you continue to call others to us; may you continue the process of building up this new community of faith. Help us to grab hold of the vision, give me the grace to keep the vision in front of them and to lead in a way where the vision captures our hearts. Thank you for this union; for bringing us together that your work might be done in this place. May this kind of union be replicated throughout the world through the power of your grace. Amen!
