The abiding presence of Jesus
Luke 24:15 “As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them.’
I think we can learn a lot from this text today; namely, that the promise of God is that wherever Jesus’ name is lifted up, talked about, disputed, etc He is present. Jesus is no longer bound by time and space but through the resurrection He is freed from the imprisonment of humanity and able to reign freely throughout the world through the Holy Spirit. When we come together to talk of the things of Jesus not only is He present but the burning inside of us that comes through these gathering is the presence of Christ that seeks to woo us back to himself. Hence, the very essence of community is to experience the burning presence of Jesus within our midst; it is a reminder that Jesus has risen from the dead and will be with us till the end of the age.
Lord, thank you for reminding me this morning that you are present throughout my life and wherever I am in conversation about you that you are present there. During these encounters, give me the grace to pay attention to your burning presence that constantly loves me into the person you want me to be. Help me to be the kind of disciple today that responds to that presence and points others in that same direction. Amen!
