the movement of Jesus: "It cannot be stopped"
Acts 5:38-39 “Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
Do you think God is still doing something new? Do you think God is still trying to move us beyond our own infinite minds to perceive new thoughts from above? Do you think we are still trying to prevent Jesus from being King so that we can hold onto our old empty ritual? Have we learned that this devotional today is a testimony to the truth of this text? Maybe the reason so many churches are declining today; maybe the reason that ministries are failing is because they are not from God. Yes, they use God’s title and name but perhaps the essence of the ministry is not coming from the power of Christ. Maybe the reason there are pockets of gospel explosion throughout the world today, maybe the reason some churches are thriving is it is from God and what ever is from God it cannot be stopped. However, we can also look and see where there have been pockets of vast growth but over time it has faded away (Jim Baker; Jimmy Swaggert; etc) and at the same time seen the likes of Billy Graham continue to influence lives for the sake of the gospel. When we spend our time focusing on Jesus and keeping him King everything else takes care of itself. We are a part of a revelation from God that changes the whole notion of reality. Because of Jesus Christ we see the world and live it in differently then before. As fear tries to take over my life, as doubts try to pollute my mind, and insecurities enslaved my soul I hold onto the truth that as a follower of Jesus Christ I am a part of something that is bigger then myself; I am a part of something that is of God and it cannot be stopped.
Lord Jesus I come to you on behalf of your Church and plead that you will give us the grace to fall in Love with you over and over again. Help Crossroads be the kind of place that keeps you on the thrown and refuses to be a part of anything besides your movement of grace in the world. Affirm in us the promise that if we stay true to following you that we are joining a movement that cannot be stopped. Help us to realize that it is not a matter of succeeding or failing, but it is a matter of following Jesus or not following Jesus. I thank you for your presence in my life and pray that you would equip me with the tools that can effectively articulate your vision for this new church and open up the door for others to hear your invitation to be a part of this new community of faith. Amen!
