the heart of following Jesus: "Is doesn’t cost anything but your life"
Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”
Today’s text is a snapshot of the life of a follower of Jesus; this is our mission; this is our vision; this is what we are to devote our lives to; we are to testify to the gospel of God’s grace. This gospel is simply; through Jesus Christ, God did for us what we could not do for ourselves, namely, free ourselves from the penalty of sin (separation from God), and begin living the life that God intended for us to live. Our lives are worth nothing a part from Jesus Christ; without Jesus Christ we are only existing and perhaps until we know Jesus and begin living this different kind of life we are not fully human. Perhaps a human being is someone that lives in relationship with God seeking to have the heartbeat of God and partnering with God to love the world to heaven. We all have a task in front of us and even those the circumstances and the environments of our tasks are different the mission and vision are the same; we are to testify to the gospel of God’s grace. Anything less then this is to live a life that is different from humanity the way God designed it. However to live with this task at the center of our lives is to be fully human the way God intended and experience life to its fullest.
Lord Jesus, I want to thank you today for freeing me from the penalty of my sin and inviting me into a new life, a life the way God intended. May you give me the grace today to be a walking, talking, breathing, testimony to the gospel of your grace. Protect me from the sin of my life that seeks to distract me and make the focus of my life something other then this testimony to your grace. Give me the strength to trust you and the ability to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in my life today. I thank you for the work you are doing in my life and pray that you would take all of me. Show me any areas where I am not giving you everything and give me the grace to hand it to you that you may use it to bring others close to you. Thank you for giving me a new way to life, thanks for inviting me into the best possible way to live; thanks for allowing me to join you in loving the world to heaven and experiencing what true humanity is all about. Amen!
I’m excited today that my task is to bear witness to the gospel of God’s grace and in this task I find true life.
