Proclaiming the Resurrection: "Worthy Work"

I Cor. 15:58: “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

As I sit here this morning it is taking every ounce of effort to write this reflection. I am reminded of my humanness today with the stuffy nose and achy head. I am reminded through this scripture today that it is only because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ that my life, my work, and my being is not in vain. Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ I am merely a being that aches all over, taking up space within the world and I have not an ounce of hope. However, because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ I have been invited into a new life that is full of hope. This life goes beyond the perishable time of today and my work towards proclaiming this hope is never in vain regardless of how I feel. It is so easy for me to look at what is going on and become frustrated with my work today. It is easy for my labor to seem to be in vain; I am so results driven that before I know it the results have become my object of worship instead of Jesus. Today I am reminded that it is not about results as much as it is about witnessing to the resurrection of Jesus Christ and knowing that as this witness stays at the forefront of my mind there is never any work I do that is in vain.

Lord, thank you for the reminder today to stand firm and to know that any labor done in proclaiming your resurrection is never labor in vain. Keep me encouraged today and open up doors for me to proclaim you resurrection to those in my midst. Help me to remain confident in knowing that regardless of the outcome of the day my labor for you is not in vain. I pray that you will give me the grace to stand firm in the power of the gospel and that your grace would be the source of all my actions today. Amen!

Today I choose to stand firm in the Lord and know that proclamation of Jesus’ resurrection is never in vain but is the source of all redeemed life.
