an instrument for Jesus Christ: "trading in darkness to become a child of light"
Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”
Its hard to read scriptures like this and not realize the change that takes place in someone’s life when they truly come to know Jesus. Maybe the reason so many folks who claim to follow Jesus but still look like they are children of darkness is because they don’t really know Jesus. Sure, they’ve grown up their whole lives knowing about Jesus but they don’t really know Jesus. There is this moment in all of our lives; this encounter that must take place for us to stop being children of darkness and become children of light. Just because we are in the same room with light doesn’t mean that we belong to light. We are born as children of darkness; separated from God….but through Jesus Christ we are adopted as children of light that we may become God’s light within the world. This transformation is impossible without an encounter with Jesus Christ; there is no other way. My heart aches for those that never open themselves up to this encounter but still want to claim the light around their terms. We only become light by allowing God to change our darkness into light and this only happens through asking Jesus in our hearts and to be the ruler of our lives.
Lord, I pray that you would mold me into an instrument light today; may the light of your grace drown out the gospel of darkness that seeks to invade my life. Show me the kind of life you intend for me to live and then give me the grace to take this promise and respond to your grace that you may mold me into a light that would be so bright that darkness would be not only be drowned out of my life but also within the world around me. Amen!
Through Jesus Christ I am a child of light and no longer belong to darkness.
