Authentic Faith: "Sure of what we hope for and certain in what we cannot see"
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
I guess the first question that comes to mind is “what do I hope for” and the second question is “what do I not see.” I hope that Jesus is at work bringing about His plan for my life and for Crossroads UMC. I hope that Jesus is the most relevant thing about my life and the most relevant thing to the lives of others. I hope that through Jesus Christ, we are no longer separated from God but we are now joined with God and invited to partner with God in loving the world to heaven. I am certain that Jesus is real; I am certain that Jesus is truly God and truly human….and came to free me from the penalty of sin. I am certain that true life can only be found through a relationship with Jesus Christ. I am certain that in Jesus, God did not abandon us. I am certain the through Jesus, God is actively involved in every piece of my life and leading me in a direction that will bring myself and others closer to Him. I am certain that my hope is in Jesus’ ability to build Crossroads into a force for the gospel here in Fayetteville; and today I will practice this faith.
Lord, it is so easy for doubts to creep into my mind about my life and the building up of Crossroads. I go on these crazy trips down heartbreak lane and find myself in a black hole of discouragement that I can’t get out of. Lord, I don’t want to be on this kind of trip but I desire to live into this verse today and to practice a faith that is worthy of the people that came before me. Give me the grace today to be sure of the hope that God can and will build up Crossroads; give me the grace today to be certain that Crossroads is going to be a force for the gospel in this community even though I cannot see it right now; help me to trust the you are bringing this into being and I am called to live a life in response to this faith by proclaiming it with all that I am. Amen!
