The Work of Jesus: "Beaten and Whipped to bring about wholeness and healing"

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”

Isaiah is stating something that we hear in our heads but need to experience in our hearts. He speaks of this dream (in his mind) of God’s chosen one taking on humanities punishment and in taking on that punishment repairs humanities brokenness and heals our sickness of sin.

It is still hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that as Jesus takes on my brokenness and sin He is also, in the very act, offering me wholeness and redemption. I realize that I must be willing to offer my brokenness and sin to Jesus in order for the healing of wholeness to occur. So often, we want to hold onto our sin and not offer it to Jesus. Today, I offer up my brokenness to Jesus and ask that He take it on and that in the act of taking on my brokenness that I would be made whole. I desire today for this healing to occur and acknowledge that Jesus’ taking on the whipping I deserve makes room for this healing to occur. How wonderful that Jesus loves me (and you) so much that He took on my (our) penalty of sin and suffered to make room for me (and you) to be made whole. And yet, for this work of wholeness to take place I must offer up my brokenness and sin to Jesus that it might be transformed by His wonderful work of grace.

Thank you Jesus for taking on my brokenness for the sole purpose of making me whole and restoring me back into relationship with you. Give me the grace to live this whole life of restoration. Amen.
