Natures Call…..human or divine…..where am I today?
John 2:24-25 “But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew human nature. No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like.”
This gives us some real insight into how Jesus is able to see us for who we really are. John makes it clear that Jesus is not fooled by our attempts to disguise the sin of our lives or pretend that we are not in need of redemption. So often we are able to disguise our nature to others or convince other humans that we are “good” people but Jesus sees our true nature. Jesus sees us at the raw state of our human nature. He sees our thoughts, attitudes, selfishness for what it really is and when we try to disguise these things to others in our interaction with them Jesus sees the true selfishness behind our actions. But yet, this is the reason Jesus comes to us. Jesus comes to us because he sees us in our brokenness and knows who we truly are. Jesus comes to make us into His nature. Through the cross and resurrection Jesus frees us from the penalty of our nature and begins to transform us into His nature. This is the journey of faith; dying to ourselves and rising to Christ…becoming less like “human nature” and more like “divine nature.”
God thank you today for this time of centering myself. I came here completely freaked out in my human nature; in my sin…..and I am leaving as a new creation. May you continue to be the chief actor in my life and in the life of Crossroads. I give Crossroads to you today and trust you to be the driving force of the missional community. Rise people up; call them out of their human nature and into the divine that you may use them to go about building up your Kingdom here on earth and in heaven. Amen.
