Compelling Jesus to act: "Prayer that desire to bring glory to the Father"
John 14:13-14 “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
Throughout this chapter Jesus is talking about His relationship with the Father. There is the obvious claim that Jesus and the Father are as much one as they are separate. Jesus’ focus is to bring glory to the Father and to ask of something in Jesus name that will bring glory to the Father compels Jesus to act. Jesus desires to bring glory to the Father and invites the disciples to ask for things in Jesus’ own name that will bring glory to the Father which will compel Jesus to act.
I am thinking about my prayer life today and asking the question: “How are my prayers a petition for Jesus to bring glory to the Father. How are my prayers compelling Jesus to act because my prayers are a longing to bring glory to the Father?” There are many times that my prayers are focused upon myself and my own agenda. I am ashamed of that but thankful for this reminder this morning. I realize today that I need to be praying in a way that will ask Jesus to bring glory to the Father; I need to pray in a way that compels Jesus to act.
Jesus, I come to you this morning and ask that my life would bring glory to the Father. I pray that you would intervene in my life in a way that it would bring glory to the Father. Show me the changes I need to make today that the Father would have glory. Jesus, I pray that Crossroads would bring glory to the Father. Jesus, may our worship bring glory to the Father. Send us the people that will allow our worship to bring this glory to the Father. Empower our children’s ministry to bring glory to the Father; give us those people that will bring glory to you. Do not let us forget this focus and I come today and pray in your name Jesus that you would bring about the creation of Crossroads that we would be a place where the Father gets all the glory; do whatever you need to do to get us there. Amen.
