Freedom through Love: "The work of Jesus for us"
Revelation 1:5b “All glory to Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.”
Jesus is the one that has freed us from sin. Through His shedding of blood in our place He has taken care of the penalty of sin that kept us separated from God and freed us to live the life that God intended for us to live. Here, John is laying the foundation for the rest of his revelation. John makes it clear to his readers that it is Jesus that is responsible for freeing us and it is out of Jesus’ great love for us that we have been set free. Jesus shed His blood for His people in response to His love for them and a desire for them to be reconciled back into relationship with God.
I guess the question I am wrestling with this morning is, “am I giving Jesus the glory He deserves for loving and freeing me from my sins in the shedding of His blood?” Am I taking for granted the great act of love for me on behalf of Jesus? How am I honoring this great act of love with my life? How am I living in the freedom from which I have received from Jesus? Am I choosing to stay enslaved or am I living in this complete freedom? What needs to change in my life today to be living in this complete freedom?
Lord Jesus, free me from the sin that is holding me back from living in your complete freedom. Empower me to act with a boldness that can only come from being truly free because of your love for me. Give me the grace to live in this freedom and to become the person you’ve created me to be. Amen.
