Luke 7:13
SàWhen the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said.
HàThis chapter is full of miracles from Jesus. It is full of Jesus stepping into the brokenness of those He encounters and bringing wholeness out of their brokenness. With this widow, Jesus is overwhelmed with compassion for her. Jesus hurts with her. Jesus is overwhelmed with feelings for this woman who has already lost a husband and now a son. Jesus is filled with compassion that this woman is encountering so much brokenness within this world that is ruled by sin and death. Perhaps it is this compassion that is a tool that fuels Jesus’ commitment to going to the cross to freeing His creation from these realities of unfair tragedy and brokenness. Perhaps it is this compassion that is Jesus’ promise to walk with us through every single detail of our life with the assurance that even in the midst of tragedy, His love and compassion is greater than the reality of the present tragedy.
AàJesus hurts with me. Jesus has compassion for my brokenness. Jesus is overwhelmed with compassion at the unfair reality of brokenness within my life and the world around me. Jesus goes to the cross to give me victory over these realities of brokenness. I live in the tension of knowing I have victory but still having to experience the reality of brokenness. I take comfort in knowing that Jesus walks with me; hurts with me; gives me grace to walk through the valley; and great hope in knowing that I ultimately have victory over the world and the injustices of it.
PàJesus, give me the grace today to walk as someone who serves the God that walks beside them and does not leave them abandoned to walk alone in this world. Give me the grace to take comfort in knowing that you are greater then my tragedy and that I ultimately have victory over the tragedies of my life and this world. Use me as an instrument of this compassion that through me others might experience your overwhelming compassion for the people you love. Amen.
EàJesus’ compassion overflows into all areas of my life and is the source of my victory over the tragedy of life.
