Celebrating Resurrection: “The journey from death to life”
Luke 15:32
SàWe had to celebrate this happy day. For you brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost but now he is found!
HàIn light of what I’m preaching on this week this parable has taken another depth of meaning in the midst of its already pregnant depth. It’s as if Jesus is claiming that the son being separated from the father was the death of the son. And the son’s return home to the father was a return to life. It is a story of resurrection.
AàAt the very heart of the Christian story is the story of resurrection. This is what makes this faith so distinct and resurrection is at the very heart of the story. We should be the kind of people that expect, participate in, and celebrate the dead coming back to life. Following Jesus is a story of life and our job is to invite the dead into the story that they might experience life. This resurrection is reason for celebration and this celebration is at the heart of what we do when we gather together as God’s people.
PàLord, help me to be the kind of disciple that is always looking for the dead that are coming to their senses and heading for home. Empower me not to get jealous but to be a part of the “throw down” celebration that another son/daughter who was dead is now alive. Amen.
EàAs a follower of Jesus I am called to celebrate the dead coming back to life.
