Connecting to the stream of life
Psalm 1:3
SàThey are like trees planted along the river bank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
HàThe psalmist is drawing a comparison between the wicked and those that are followers of God. The first question that pops up is: If one is not a God follower then is one wicked?….scripture seems to draw a line here and say “yes.” Those that follow God are connected to the stream of living water (echos of the Gospel of John). In being connected to this stream of life, God followers bear fruit in each season, they never whither away and prosper in all they do.
AàWhat a great picture of what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus. Followers of Jesus are those that are connected to this stream of life that produces a harvest from their life; it produces a freshness that doesn’t get old; and it rejoices in the favor of God. The question to ask myself this morning is am I connected to the stream? Which leads to another question: am I bearing fruit in every season and situation? Am I staying fresh and new in my relationship with Jesus? Am I no where near the status quo? Am I enjoying the favor of God?
PàLord, you are my source of life; without you I am nothing but a dead stump. It is through you that I experience the stream of life. It is through your grace that I am able to participate in the harvest; it is through your mercy that I reject the status quo; and it is through your grace that I find favor in you. May you continue to bless me and those around me; continue to call us out to a mission that is bigger then ourselves. In Jesus name….Amen.
EàStaying connected to the stream of life leads to life the way God intended.
