I Peter 1:7a
SàThese trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold.
HàThis texts points to the assurance that tests and trials are coming in our lives. These tests and trials are a part of life. This analogy of fire and gold goes great; it is through the fire that we are able to see if the gold is pure. It is through the tests and trials that we see if our faith is pure.
AàIt is so easy to have “lip service” faith and most of us practice this kind of faith and then when the rubber hits the road we have to look in the mirror and realize that our faith is not as pure as we once thought. Really, I ought to see trials as an opportunity for my faith to purify to become what God desires it to be. I wonder how my outlook would change in life if I saw tests and trial as opportunities for my faith to become more pure? Today, I don’t pray for tests and trials but I pray for opportunities for my faith to become purified in the sight of God that I may become the follower He is calling me to be.
PàLord Jesus, I come to you today and I pray for opportunities for my faith to grow and purify. Give me chances to put my faith in you into action. It is so easy for me to become consumed with fear and doubt that I pray you put me in situations where I have to choose between fear and faith. I pray you would give me the grace to choose faith and to trust you in the midst of the trial and from that trust you would purify my faith. Mold me into who you want me to be. Amen.
EàTests and trials are opportunities to purify my faith.
