My devotional leaped out at me today from this reading in Luke 19 as Jesus enters into Jerusalem. I’ve never thought of discipleship through the lens of this donkey until this morning. This good for nothing, low life jackass carries in the King of Kings to Jerusalem; its a less then impressive sight. Couldn’t God do better then a jackass? Why this donkey?
I find myself asking these same questions about myself. Couldn’t God do better then me in choosing someone to lead His people? Why me? I’ll tell you why me….because God chooses donkeys, jackass’s like me who are good for nothing, scum of the earth to make His power and mercy known in the world. Jesus sees something in this donkey that that world doesn’t and that’s why He chooses me. Praise God that He sees donkey’s like me. What a wonderful thing that I get to carry the King of Kings into Jerusalem where He will accomplish His work on the cross. What a wonderful thing that I get to carry Jesus to the world that they might experience His transforming love.
I am truly thankful today to be donkey that Jesus didn’t look over or forget but one that He choose to carry Him into Jerusalem.
