Rescued by a baby…what is God thinking?

Colossians 1:13

For He has rescued us from the Kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son

I don’t think that we often realize that we find our selves in the kingdom of darkness.  We are so numb to the evil that rules our society that we forget we belong to this same darkness that has become “normal.”  It is our human dilemma.  Perhaps Jesus comes to expose our “normal” for the evil that it is and to give us the grace to realize that we are drowning and need of being rescued.  But even if that is the case how in world does God plan to rescue us through a baby?  What in the world can a baby do to rescue me from the darkness of my life?  What kind of God is this?  What does He want with me?  If He’ll come to me in a baby and expect me to trust that this baby will rescue me He’ll expect me to believe anything He says and does?  What an incredible journey this is to live a life devoted to a God that saves me through a baby.  What an awesome task to lead people to follow this God of rescue in unpredictable ways.  There is no greater environment that requires more leadership then this environment of creating and empowering followers of Jesus.

God, continue to rescue me today through this baby.  Give me the grace to trust your unorthodox work in the world that turns my life down side up and prepares me for the task at hand.  Amen.
