Discipleship: “Do’s and Don’ts”

George MacDonald says that for us to claim “belief” in Jesus but to never do something that Jesus asks or stop doing something that He tells us to that we are building our house on sand (echoes from Matthew 7).  He says to ask the question, “when was the last time I did something because Jesus told me to do it?  When was the last time I didn’t do something because Jesus told me to stop it?”  What great questions to use as a measuring stick in our discipleship.  I pray today for God to pour out His grace upon me that I might hear Him clearly of what “to do” and what “not to do” and that He would give me the grace to have the courage to take that action.

So I ask the question this morning Jesus: “What do you want me to do?  What do you want me to stop doing?”

And I pray: “Jesus, give me the grace to do and to not do today that my house may be built on rock!!”
