Leaving the swamp for dry ground (Psalm 40:2 and I Peter 2:9)
The Psalmist has this beautiful picture of a God that takes his people that are walking through the muck and causing their feet to be on solid ground. This picture along side the picture of I Peter 2:9 (connection of a God that views us as His possession; the chosen people of God) is a great example of how God cares for us and His actions towards those He cares about.
Turkey season is just around the corner; the other day I was walking through the woods doing some scouting and came to a swamp. I decided I would try to cross that swamp. As a started across the swamp I found myself stepping through a whole bunch of muck. At times it was hard to keep my balance; I almost “bit it” a couple of times. There was nothing under me that was solid; I was anything but steadied.
Life is so much like walking through a swamp of unsteadied ground. At times, the ground can even begin to move beneath us from one moment to the next. However, there is a God (that came to us in Jesus Christ) who wants more for our lives. God seeks for us not to travel through the swamp of unsteady ground. God desires for us to be on solid ground. Through Jesus Christ, God lifts us up out of the muck; out of the swamp and sets us on solid ground because we are His chosen people; we are His holy nation.
I want to encourage you today to be reminded and to allow God to lift you up out of the swamp of your life. May you know today that you don’t have to remove yourself. May you know today that you can’t remove yourself and the more you try the more your going to end up deeper in the swamp. It is only through the grace of God in Jesus Christ that you will find yourself on solid ground. Happy Trails!!!
