Reach to Him today: “Becoming Naked and Unashamed”

My wife loves to shop!  She loves to just go and look at clothes for herself and the kids; even me occassionally.  She is not so concerned with buying any clothes as much as she enjoys shopping.  Have you ever thought about the fact that we were created to be naked and unashamed.  But when humanity (Adam and Eve) chose to live their own way (eat the fruit) they saw that they were naked and were ashamed.  As a result we will all “cover” ourselves today as we go out into the world.

I find this (covering ourselves) to be so symbolic to how we also try to “cover” ourselves from letting folks really “know” us and how we try to convince ourselves that we can “cover” ourselves from God too.  Here’s the thing though, God is without sin.  God is not seperated from Himself; God is without sin.  God doesn’t see us “with our clothes” on.  God sees us for who we really are; God sees us naked.  God sees every piece of you; God sees ever aspect of brokenness, pain, selfishness, evil that is present in you.  When you speak those words of death about someone today, God sees it.  When I complain about someone today or have an evil thought against someone in my midst; God sees it.  And not only in spite of seeing us naked but also because He sees us naked God comes to us in Jesus Christ that we might be freed and cleansed to be naked before our God and unashamed.

reaching-handsHebrews 4:13 talks about everyone being naked before the “one we must give account.”  God is the one that each of us must answer too.  As we all stand naked before God we must answer to Him.  And here’s the question that God wants to ask us in regards to our attempt to hide/cover our nakedness before each other and the world.  “Did you reach out your hand when I reached my hand out to you?  Did you grab a hold of my hand that I reached to you?”  In Jesus, God reaches out to you (and our failed attempt to cover up our nakedness and live our own way) and all that is required is for you to reach back.

I can say today that in reaching back to God I have found a peace where I am able to be “naked and unashamed” before my creator.  My naked self is now being molded by this creator into the creature He desires me to be.  I am finding that in order for this molding to take place I must lay my naked self at His feet and trust the creator to create anew in me.

Reach Back today; lay your naked self at the feet of Jesus; allow the creator to create anew in your life today.

I love you with the Love of the Lord.

Peace,

Pastor P
